Digi dominates the Romanian pay-TV market
Digi Communications’ RCS&RDS remains the main provider of pay-TV services in Romania.
The latest results released by Digi show that it ended the first quarter with a total of 5,185,000 cable and DTH subscribers, about 6.5% more than the corresponding period last year. Meanwhile, data published by regulator ANCOM indicates that at the end of 2021, RCS&RDS held 65% of the Romanian pay-TV market. It was followed by Orange (19%) and other suppliers (16%).
According to ANCOM, the total number of pay-TV subscribers in Romania was 7.8 million at the end of 2021, with a notable shift from DTH to cable. While the number of DTH subscribers fell by 17% to 1.5 million last year, the number of cable subscribers increased by 6% to 6.2 million.
Another key indicates in the regular show that the threshold of 6 million households with fixed Internet was exceeded in mid-2021, which means that by the end of the year, three quarters of households had fixed Internet service.
Digi’s revenues in Romania amounted to 243.4 million euros in the first quarter, 13.4% more than a year earlier. J
he company, which is also present in Spain (fixed and mobile internet and telephony) and in Italy (mobile), achieved a total turnover of 360.6 million euros (297.9 million euros) and a profit of 27 million euros (23.3 million euros) in the first quarter.
